Mosquito Road to Camino Heights The first section of the El Dorado Trail to open. The Class 1 (paved) bike path and pedestrian and equestrian (side path with decomposed granite) starts at Mosquito Road across the street from the Placeville Bus Station. It continues to Jaquier Road (about 1.75 miles). The user then turns north onto Jaquier Road to meet the extension (at 2 miles). The Class 1 trail then continues over Highway 50 via the unmotorized bridge to Las Trampas Drive (about 4.6 miles). The trail continues as an improved gravel/dirt path to the end at Camino Heights (about 6.3 miles).
Mosquito & Clay to Main Street & Clay The second section of the El Dorado Trail opened runs from the Placerville Station bus stop at the intersection of Mosquito Road and Clay Street to the other end of U-shaped Clay Street near its intersection with Main Street. This is a short urban Class 1 bike (paved) bike path with decomposed granite siding for horses.
Missouri Flat Road to Oriental Street, El Dorado The third section of the El Dorado Trail to open. This trail runs from behind WalMart on Missouri Flat Road near Forni Road to Oriental Street in the community of El Dorado. Currently it is a "natural" trail with no asphalt and appropriate for walkers, horse riders and mountain bikes. Care should be taken where the trail crosses Forni Road and Blanchard Road. Equestrian should begin only from the Oriental Avenue end of the trail where there is adequate parking for trailers.
Forni Road to Missouri Flat Road` The fourth section of the El Dorado Trail, the "Trestle Segment", to be opened runs from Forni Road near the intersection with Ray Lawyer Drive to Missouri Flat Road near Walmart. This is an approximately 2.5 mile long, multi use paved trail.

Sections 1-4 complete the El Dorado Trail from the east end of the 1st section at Las Trampas Drive in Camino Heights to the west end of the 3rd section at Oriental Street in El Dorado. Between these two end points there is a "missing" short section on Main Street in downtown Placerville that has not yet been designated as part of the El Dorado Trail.

Camino East This is a draft map for the extension of the El Dorado Trail from Camino to Pacific House east of Pollock Pines. At the present time, potential routes from the end of the current trail at Highway 50 are being considered. One scenario might be for two routes in certain stretches such as a route for road bikes and a second route for hikers, mountain bikes, and equestrians. This draft map was prepared by Sierra Ecosystems Associates. More information can be seen at our Additional Links page.
